Who’s Really Responsible for Show Biz Kids?

Irene's Children

Exec Prod Irene Dreayer & her Dray Kids

PARENTS… you are responsible for the well-being of your child. These are your children, not the studios, not the networks. It is YOUR responsibility whether at home, on set or on tour. Listen to them…are they overtired, are they anxious, are they showing unreasonable signs of anger, are they eating or not eating or cutting or doing drugs? If you sense any drastic changes in your kid’s behavior, just say NO.  No, they are too tired to do the umpteenth promo, no they are too overworked and need rest, no I want them to have the weekend off. Parents you have to watch what is happening to your own child.  Speak up parents!

  1. I would suspect that a large percentage of why you have never had that happen to your young actors is that you hold such a position.

Parent is a verb – it’s something you do, not something you are.

But it’s helpful to hear that there are people on your side of the equation standing up for the kids as well. Love this post. Happy to have stumbled upon your blog.

  2. hello!This was a really fabulous theme!

  3. Hi:) this is really good advise to me
and im bearly 13 years old but it has been my dream to become
a disney star ever since i was 4 i go to acting school and it has helped me alot
with faceing my fear of being up on stage and it has been a great expirience for me well sorry i gave you my story bout becoming a disney star but i wanted to ask you a question: where can you go to audition for disney channel shows??

i really loved your website thanks for all the advise:)

    1. I produce and cast Disney shows all the time and in develop on new shows right now for the network. It is very important to be prepared for auditions and to work on your acting craft. I can help you and meet you if you book a Private Skype Session. You never know! You might become a Dray Way kid and make it onto one of my shows! Ask your parents to book a Session for you as a Christmas gift this year. I look forward to meeting you!

  4. So if your child wanted to become a star, wouldn’t you almost always have to live in California? I live in Delaware (very far off) and I have never seen anything that would push my career any farther into becoming big. I think every child wants to be famous and some deserve to, but some of the ones who deserve to be famous (good deeds, kind hearted, responsible) live too far away. How can you expand my world if everything with big opportunity is almost a whole country away?

    1. Dear RayvenH,
That’s why I developed THE DRAY WAY. Through Skype I can work with you and your child in the development of their performing skills by coaching and working with them. Yes, I can tell in a Skype video session if a child is ready to pursue this career, each session is done in real-time and in full screen. I also work with the parents to help prepare them for very big decisions like moving across the country. It is not a decision to make unless you are prepared as a family for a major life change and committing everything to your child’s career. But your child also has to be ready before they come to California or to New York. That’s why it’s important to prepare locally if possible or you might have to travel to a larger city to participate in theatre, acting programs, etc. The Skype Sessions are the best way to meet as many talented kids and their parents as possible. Eventually, yes, one must come to CA or NYC to pursue a career in entertainment but never make that move unless you know you are ready. Working with me on Skype, I can truly evaluate and work with you to get to that point.
