During difficult times due to unemployment, salary cutbacks and inflation, it is still possible to expose your child to many cultural events. Many are free in your hometown! Exposing your child to the arts is beneficial in shaping a child’s destiny and dreams, so don’t let the financial situation you might be in hold them back from gaining experiences in the arts and in life.
I spent time with Selena Gomez and her mom on the set of my show “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and learned about her family’s financial struggles when Selena was younger. She said, “My mom still saved up to take me to concerts. She took me to museums, aquariums, to teach me about the world, about what’s real.”
If you think you are unable to take your child to cultural events, think again and do what I did! Search “free cultural events” or “free opportunities for families” and you will see that there are a ton of opportunities in cities all over the country that are free: concerts and movies under the stars; museums; festivals in the park; events at libraries, schools, religious centers, art centers, local theaters, colleges and universities. You can even volunteer at your local theaters and cultural event venues by handing out programs and, as a result, see the show for free.
Selena endured financial hardships growing up, but her mom figured out a way to enrich her daughter’s life… and look at her now!
Free (and almost free) is Fabulous!
